NEIBA NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE ALL-STAR GAME AT FENWAY JUNE 14

MEDFORD – Many of New England’s top college baseball players will get the opportunity of a lifetime to play at historic Fenway Park in the 2008 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association’s (NEIBA) College All-Star Game on Saturday, June 14.\

A team of Division I All-Stars will play a squad made up of Division II All-Stars and Division III Senior All-Stars in the annual game. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Fenway. The University Division leads the series with a 21-10-1 record, but the College Division team won last year’s game with a 2-0 shutout.

Prior to the game, the NEIBA will present its annual awards. Three Teams of the Year will be recognized – Dartmouth in Division I, Franklin Pierce in Division II and Trinity in Division III – along with Coaches of the Year Bob Whelan (Dartmouth), Jayson King (Franklin Pierce) and Bill Decker (Trinity). Bruce Joyce, formerly the coach at Southern New Hampshire University and past president of the NEIBA, will receive the Jack Butterfield Award, presented to a coach who exhibits the integrity and dedication to the game that Coach Butterfield displayed during his long career at the University of Maine. The recently-established Kevin Burr Assistant Coach Award will be presented to longtime Tufts assistant Bob Clarke. During the winter, John Claffey of the Cape Cod League received NEIBA’s Andy Baylock Distinguished Service Award.
