FENWAY PARK TO HOST 33RD ANNUAL NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE ALL-STAR GAME
MEDFORD – Historic Fenway Park will again be the site of the New England College
Baseball All-Star Game to be played on Sunday (July 22) after the Red Sox-White
Sox game.
Prior to the game, the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA)
will present its annual awards on the field. In addition to honoring All-Star
players, the NEIBA will also recognize its teams and coaches of the year and
hand out its annual awards.
Three teams of the year will be recognized based upon their #1 ranking in the
final NEIBA poll of the season. Quinnipiac University will receive the Division I
honor, Franklin Pierce College in Division II and Wheaton College in Division
III.
Brown University’s Marek Drabinski will get the Division I Coach of the Year
award. Jayson King of Franklin Pierce in Division II and Eric Podbelski of
Wheaton College in Division III will also receive honors.
The pre-game ceremony will conclude with the presentation of the NEIBA’s three
annual awards. Northeastern University coach Neil McPhee will receive the 27th
Annual Jack Butterfield Award, which is presented to an active New England coach
who exhibits the integrity and dedication to the game that Coach Butterfield
demonstrated throughout his career
The NEIBA will present its Andy Baylock Distinguished Service Award to Red Sox
scout Buzz Bowers for significantly contributing to the betterment of New
England college baseball.
The first annual Kevin Burr Assistant Coach of the Year Award will go to Norm
Govoni at Babson College. Coach Burr was a Tufts assistant who passed away in
January.
The University team holds a commanding 21-9-1 lead in the series and has won the
last two games.
